Enrollment of New Families
New families considering enrollment must
first file a complete application
packet with the secretary, and pay a screening fee. After
satisfactory screening tests and a family interview with the
Academic Dean, written or verbal notice of acceptance will be
made. All other appropriate fees are to be paid before the student
may attend class. |
Screening
& Acceptance
Greater Portland Christian School is a private
Christian school. While the school would like to take in and educate
any and all children, unfortunately we do not have the staff or the
resources to educate children with special needs. Consequently, we
cannot accept any children with current major learning difficulties
(i.e., children who have been involved in special education programs).
Similarly, the school cannot accept any student who has a history
of major emotional problems or major disciplinary problems.
All students must undergo a screening process before they can be admitted
to the school. The screening process will include an achievement test.
For the reasons stated above, no student can be admitted to the school
if his/her achievement test indicates that he/she is below a 4 standing.
Students who pass the screening process will be given preliminary
admission to the school. However, all new students enrolled in the
school will be admitted only on a probationary basis for the first
three (3) months, and can be refused admission at any time during
those first three (3) months.
No decision concerning final admission to the school can be made until
the school administrator has had an opportunity to review the student's
previous school records.
GPCS seeks support from strong Christian students and parents, but
does not require a profession of faith from them. We do require our
teachers and Association members to subscribe to the Statement of
Faith.
GPCS does not discriminate in any of its programs on the basis of
gender, race, color or country of national origin.

What Our International
Students Say:
"I spent a year as a foreign exchange
student at GPCS. The year was an awesome experience. The school
provides small classes and I got to meet a lot of great friends.
At school I really enjoyed the Christian atmosphere, talking
to friends, and participating in sports."
Simon Mader (Switzerland)
"GPS is small, but this school is the kindest and coolist
I have ever seen! Every teacher and all the students are helpful.
You can take different level classes. Also, you can play sports,
and that helps you make friends. Come to GPCS. You will not
be disappointed."
Keonhee Kim (South Korea)
"GPCS is filled with love. It is special. Also, GPCS
is a God-honoring school, letting me feel that God loves this
school more and more every day."

International Students
Greater Portland Christian School welcomes international
students. Over the years we have had students from Japan, South Korea,
China, Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Switzerland.
You should send your child to Greater Portland Christian School if
you want your child to:
1. Improve his/her English - Your child will be totally immersed in
English. Your child will think in English, dream in English, and be
fluent in English by the end of the school year.
2. Learn American Culture - Your child will live with an American
host family, and will learn American culture by living it.
3. Attend a First Rate American Private School - GPCS is a first rate
American private school. See the rest of this website for details.
Several of our international students have gone on to American colleges
and universities after graduating from GPCS.
4. Go to School in a Friendly, Loving, Christian Environment - GPCS
is a friendly, loving, and Christian environment. See the comments
of some of our past international students below.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Proficiency in English - Your child must understand and speak English
well. All classes are in English, and chances are that no one at the
school will know your child's native language. Therefore, for your
child to understand what is going on, he/she must already understand
and speak English fairly well before coming to GPCS.
A representative of GPCS will interview your child for 15 to 20 minutes
over the telephone to determine whether your child has a sufficient
proficiency in English to attend school here.
2. Health Insurance - You must have health insurance for your child
that will cover him/her while here in the United States. It is up
to you to arrange and pay for that health insurance. If you do not
have health insurance in your country that will cover your child while
he/she is here in the United States, you can get health insurance
through: imgglobal.com,
or call: 1-1-800-628-4664. We need to have proof that your child has
health insurance coverage by August 15.
COST: $15,000.00
This fee covers: tuition; all school fees (registration curriculum,
athletic, activities, etc.); food and lodging with a host family;
and transportation to and from school.
That fee does not cover: travel to and from the U.S.; travel within
the U.S. (other than to and from school); food or lodging within the
U.S. (other than with the host family); entertainment (i.e. amusement
parks, movie tickets, etc.); and other non-school expenses.
In addition, the base fee does not cover tutorial services, if your
child needs special tutoring in English or in any other subject. Tutorial
services will be available at an additional cost of $20.00 per hour.
If you are interested in having your child attend GPCS, please contact
the school administrator right away.
