GPCS 100th day is looking like February 9th
(if we do not have any more snow days before that date). To
celebrate 100 days, we would like to collect 100 cans of food for
the South Portland Food Cupboard. All school families are invited to
help us reach the goal. Canned goods can be drop off with your child’s
elementary teacher or to the office.
Help us reach 100 cans by February 9th!
GPCS is participating in WMSJ Forget Me Not
promotion. We are collecting Valentines for the radio station. They
will then take them to area nursing and assisted living homes. This
is an easy way to let those community members know they are not
forgotten and they are loved. Be as creative as you want. Be sure to
sign the card(s). We need all Valentines turned in by February
7th. You can give them to your child’s teacher or turn them
into the office.
Help us show God’s love!

GPCS community had many opportunities to share Christ’s love
this past Christmas. I will share with you a few of the stories.
Grades 4 & 5 were able to give a $145 Hannaford gift card
(with the help of the South Portland Hannaford) and caring cards to
the Calkins family. They were recently burned out of their home in
South Portland. May they know the love of Jesus as they rebuild
their lives and home. Thank you for sharing His love in this way to
our neighbors in the school community.
Grades 1, 2 & 3 went caroling. The classes visited Mrs.
Deborah Will (former school employee) and Mrs. Joan Bakker (school
neighbor). Both of these ladies are widows and greatly appreciated
being remembered.
GPCS grades 6, 7, & 8 collected can and dry goods for the
Root Cellar. The classes also had some fun with the food collected.
Each grade made a sculpture with the food items and added Christmas
decorations. Mrs. Martel was then enlisted to judge. Overall, grade
eight won. With the help of Mrs. Davol, the Root Cellar received all
the food collected along with a $75 donation. The Root Cellar was
going to distribute the food the next morning.
GPCS
Grade 3 put on their annual puppet show. All were invited to attend.
Many thanks to Mrs. Coffin for giving her time, her puppets,
etc. so that we can perform this show for our school community.
Did
you get a Christmas card from GPCS this year? If you did, you will
recognize the project the kindergartners are working on. In talking
with Mrs. Lori Libby, she thinks that she has done this Christmas
project with each class for about 27 years. Traditions are great!
Hope you enjoyed this year’s Christmas card.
GPCS
Elementary students submit art work to Current Publications.
Business then pick student art work for their advertisements. This
is a fun project for the December edition of Current. Current serves
the communities of Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth & South Portland.
This year the following students had their art work chosen; Christian
Patterson (Walgreen’s), Clayton Libby (Pat’s Pizza), Ben Hatch
(Ace Hardware, Scarborough), Alicestasia Derrick (First Stop,
Gorham) & Kaeley Brann (Noyes, Hall & Allen).
Congratulations!
Dear Parents & Friends
of GPCS,
The Board of Directors of
Greater Portland Christian School (GPCS) is very pleased to announce
the appointment of Mr. Keith Dawson to the position of Head of
School. Since August of 2010, Mr. Dawson has served as the acting
Head of School along with his teaching and coaching
responsibilities.
After reviewing Mr.
Dawson’s complete application and hearing about his vision for
GPCS, the Board is convinced that Mr. Dawson is uniquely qualified
to lead GPCS at this time in our history. He possesses a great love
for and knowledge of the school and all that GPCS stands for. That
knowledge and love, coupled with a great vision for the future, puts
him in an ideal position to lead us forward.
The new Head
of School position will replace the Administrator/Headmaster
position that we have commonly referred to in the past. For the
balance of this year, Mr. Dawson will continue to teach as well as
to perform his responsibilities as Head of School. It is the
Board’s intent, as we look forward to next year, to significantly
reduce Mr. Dawson’s teaching load so that a majority of his time
will be invested in the leadership of the school.
After being named as new
Head of School, Mr. Dawson responded, “I am honored to be named to
this position. As Head of School I plan to work with our team to
continue to improve the lives of our students and instill a love of
learning in each child. My vision is for GPCS to continue as a place
that offers students academic excellence, opportunities for
meaningful service, and growth in their relationship with God
through Christ.”
Please join us in congratulating Mr. Keith Dawson on
his appointment as the new Head of School of GPCS.
Leaning
on Him,
Bill
